Advanced skill in the recognition of problems and the various aspects of the complex situations helps the intermediate manager to understand and define the problems and help the professional subordinates to create appropriate and efficient solutions. The intermediate manager must be aware of the different factors that influence the well-being of the community and review the plan of actions. Investigative skills and a logical approach also help the intermediate manager to tactfully train the subordinates for developing and applying problem-solving skills. The approach and quality of preparing the case can impact the verdict in the court. So the manager need to identify the crucial investigation aspects and motivate the staff to enhance their skills.

Recognition of Problems and DevelopingInnovative Solutions
Caleb Roy continuously looked for way outs to enhance the services offered to the residents of Waterloo Region. He was trustworthy for makingprudent decisions. As mentioned earlier, while working in Community Resources Branch, he realized that there was an inadequate use of our Interpreter Program. The Interpreters received no formal training. Caleb Royreviewed this issueand took it as a challenge. Thereafter, a training program was developed where the new Interpreters were hired and trainedadequately.It helped provide a better service to the community and to the rest of the officers.
Colleagues approached Caleb while looking for ways to resolve problems. They respected and recognizedCaleb’sexpertise and experience.
His self-confidence was considered an asset in critical decision-making situations and while resolving problems. Caleb Roy believed in accomplishing challenges in every situation and group setting. He always maintained a professional and persistent demeanour under extreme situations and emergencies.
During the four years of his tenure, Caleb Roy was in-chargeof the Auxiliary Unit. As mentioned earlier, he developed practical and insightful approach to enhance their professionalism. It helped them bring them abide by the protocols related to the sworn officers wherever appropriate, and impacted the professional morale.
Caleb Roy was asked to take the role of assisting the OPP Joint Anti-Terrorism Unit for investigating the suspected terrorists in Halton Region. His services were necessary as he could speak the language spoken by them. While he was assisting with the interviews,he gave valuable inputs and suggestions to the investigators to improve the terrorism investigation. The Sergeant in charge of the investigation thanked Caleb for his impeccable assistance and gave a joining offer in their Unit.
After getting promoted,Caleb Roy served approximately 122 hours as the Acting S/Sgt. The tenure excludes the time period while was in Community Resources acting as the senior officer. He was told by others that he was competent and trustworthy in his dealings with others. He was brilliant team player.
Crisis Management Skills
Robert Hinschberger threatened suicide with a rifle. He was going through a bad break up with his girlfriend. Caleb Roy directed the incident with Patrol and Emergency Response officers. He made a successful arrest with no injuries.
A male robbed the Petro Canada gas station on River Road and the suspect (KrysztofKurzydlowski) was thought to be carrying a Taser. Caleb Roy arrested the male, attempting to get away in his pickup truck. Caleb did this while pointing his Taser at him. The suspect was arrested without unwanted incidents. He was later found to be high on drugs. Caleb’s presence of mind helped tackle a chaotic situation with ease.
There was a report of female attempting suicide. Upon arrival, Caleb Roy saw that the female had locked herself in her bedroom. Her father was in the living room and yelled at the officers. Caleb Roy made one officer take the father outside the apartment as he was not letting them operate. The female was requested to come out of the room while guns were drawn; she obeyed the orders and came outside. She got arrested under the Mental Health Act and was transported to the hospital.
Caleb was off duty when he witnessed a domestic assault on University Avenue West approaching Westmount Road North in Waterloo. Caleb Roy acted immediately and was arrested based on what he saw. Shortly after his call for backup, Cst E. Ghent arrived at the location and continued the arrest and the investigation
A female prisoner in a cell was coming off drugs and said that she wanted to die. Caleb Roy took care of the situation and called an ambulance. He also caught Brandi trying to commit suicide in the cell by hooking the hoodie of her sweatshirt on the cell door. She was stopped and taken to the hospital.
On variousincidentsCaleb dealt with the prisoners who were unhelpful and aggressive with the officers. Caleb Roy had always been successful in demonstrating sound negotiating skills for calming situations. He had excellent judgment and communication skills, especially in volatile situations.
He represented WRPS at the G20 Summit in Toronto. Caleb Roy stood shoulder to shoulder with the fellow officers in front of several of insurgents. He maintained optimal professionalism and remained calm in emergencies to bring the best outcome.
