Caleb Roy: Let’s Know His Team Building Skills to Create Good Motivation and Learning Environment

 To enhance the problem resolving skills, the intermediate manager must develop a professional atmosphere where team work is appreciated and rewarded.  The intermediate manager needs to teach the teams to lead efficiently.

Developing incentive programs that identify the competence, respect and esteem is a professional duty of the intermediate manager.  A concern for overall welfare of staff and know-how of the performance management techniques are crucial for this position.  Incentives must be meaningful and effective for the employee and might vary individually.

Ability to Create an Environment that Fosters Motivation

 Different things motivate different people. It is crucial to recognize the individual styles and develop tailor-made ways for motivating them.

When Caleb Roy was accountable for the performance of the Auxiliary Unit, he developed efficient strategies that help develop an environment where the sworn officers could work better and got motivated as a team.   For instance –Updating the uniforms, Structured and efficient promotion steps, Coach officer introduction, and Seasonal and regular celebrations.

Caleb Roy enrolled in Humber College for studying Bachelor of Arts degree.   It was the last day for completing the Public Administration and Psychology course.   On this date his group, comprising 5 students, were to give a presentation on Diversity.   They were given an hour for the last-minute preparations.   While they were preparing, two students were not prepared. They did not have any material for the presentation and got disappointed with themselves.   They had personal and family issues for which they could not prepare.   Caleb Roy recognized that it adversely impacted the team spirit. He motivated the students and offered one of them half of his presentation. He gave the other student information on the diversity issues.   The kind gesture motivated both and the group.   The presentation went well with the instructors and class.   Caleb Roy spoke to the students later and encouraged them prepare well in the future to become a better team player.   Both appreciated his gesture and advice.

 Creates and Promotes a Learning Environment

The platoon members of Caleb Roy were aware of his commitment for ensuring professional development. His participation in Humber College diploma program made it evident.   He believed in setting an example and shared whatever he learned with his colleagues.

Caleb Roy, while working in Community Resources, requested the officers for taking turns in reading and presenting the updated procedures on the Intranet to other officers in the office.   He was proactive as an officer in the Quality Assurance Branch, and presented on patrol. Caleb Royal ways encouraged the platoon members to stay informed and share data about the procedures.

 While restructuring the Auxiliary promotional process, Caleb Roy developed a Policy and Procedure quiz for the candidates. It helped ensure that they were aware of the updated norms of the procedure.
